The trivia question was, "What year did Corvette coupes overtake convertibles in sales?" The correct answer, 1969, was given by Liz Martin. She won $20.

Jimmy then said that coupes still outsell convertibles with one exception. He awarded his Billy Mays award (a windshield cleaning tool "as seen on TV") to the person who answered the question, "What year did convertibles outsell coupes once again?" That person was Jeri Brown, who gave the answer, 2003.

AMBASSADOR’S REPORT:

OJ Webster, Ambassador, mentioned one museum raffle for a one-of-a-kind Grand Sport commemorating the National Corvette Museum’s 15th anniversary. The car is a white Grand Sport with black and red striping over the hood and roof. Tickets for this car are $150 and only 2009 of them will be sold. The drawing will be held on Sunday, Sep. 6th.

OJ gave us the latest information on the 2009 Corvette Caravan coming up in September. The group that is going to Talladega will be leaving the hotel in Pell City at 7:00 AM Wednesday. They will leave the track that afternoon and go to Athens, AL to spend the night. They will then go to the museum to arrive around noon Thursday. The cost for the Talladega run will be between $100 and $150 per car. Anyone who is joining the group at Talladega needs to be at the track at 8:00 AM Wednesday. The group that is not going to Talladega will meet at the Cracker Barrel at I-65 exit 181, Prattville before 8:00 AM Wednesday. At 8:00 AM sharp, the group will leave Cracker Barrel and go to the Wal-mart at exit 271, Gardendale to meet the rest of the caravan and go up.

This section will have personal information on it and will be password protected. If anyone took pictures at Lakefest, please send them to Jerry or Chris so they can be uploaded to the website. If anyone takes pictures at the Labor Day caravan event, please send those, as well.

OTHER:

Jerry Lowery talked about the Possum Day Festival coming up on September 19th in Millbrook at the Village Green park. This is the week after the East Chase show. The festival is held by the Millbrook Community Players. Last year, at the time they were planning this festival, they were putting together a show called "Beverly Hillbillies." They drew the name for the festival from this show. They didn’t know what to call the festival after that so the name stuck. The door prizes are given out by selling tickets and allowing people to place half of each ticket in a container next to each door prize. At the end of the show, a ticket is drawn from each container for the winner of that door prize. Then, all tickets are mixed together and one is drawn for the 50/50.

Larry Martin mentioned our upcoming East Chase car show in September. Remember that all four clubs are putting on this show so it is "our" show for all four clubs. A tentative agenda was put together by the four club presidents. A copy was given out to all and included 7-9 AM set up, 9-11 AM registration, a poker run, a silent auction, $1000 money tree, awards, 50/50, the show ending at 3 PM, and 3-5 PM take down and clean up, followed by dinner or something. There will be a first and second place award for the poker run this year. Larry also ran down the list of volunteers and their duties. If you bring any door prizes donated by someone, please give Carolyn Middleton a name and address so thank you cards may be sent. Jon Briggs will set up barricades on the Friday before the show. Everyone helping to set up should be on site no later than 7:00 AM Saturday. We are working with East Chase to set the date for the show to always be on the second Saturday of September. We are getting a lot of advertising for the show. For judging, each club will pick five people to judge two classes each. They cannot judge the class they’re in. They will pick first, second, and third place based on "I like it." The club presidents will get together and will pick the best of show, based on "we like it." Anyone who has goody bag items needs to bring them to next month’s meeting. You can bring items even if there are not 200 items. Even if there are only 50, they can be placed in bags until they run out.

Roger Lavender told about the unveiling of the new Corvette GT2 race car. It looks a lot like the car with the Jake paint job, but a little different. It is black and yellow. In the GT2 class, Corvette will be racing against Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, Ford GT, and Viper in a much larger class. The old GT1 and GT2 classes will be combined into one class called GT. This year is a transition year and the Corvettes will be running the 7.0L engine de-stroked to 6.0L, losing about 120HP, which puts it in line with the other cars in the class.

Larry adjourned the meeting at 7:51 PM. The next scheduled meeting of CCCC will be at 7 PM, Tuesday September 1st, at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka.

Respectfully Submitted,

Julie Hall, Secretary, CCCC

This is the same type of brick that members ordered with the club recently. This one belonged to Barbara and Clint Kelly. Our bricks are laid just outside the gift shop. Larry took some pictures when he went for his 50th class reunion. Sol Seay’s picture was in the paper regarding a class reunion.

SPECIAL REPORTS:

Jimmy Davis gave a little bit of history of the TV show, "Route 66," followed by a trivia question. "Route 66" is now available on DVD. The trivia question was, "What year was the museum delivery (R8C) option first offered?" The correct answer, 2001, was given by Janet Reese. She won a gift card to Ox Yoke.

AMBASSADOR’S REPORT:

OJ Webster, Ambassador, said if anyone has any questions about the National Corvette Museum, give him a call.

OJ has a friend in Texas that has five Danbury Mint Corvettes that he wants to sell for a reasonable price. The year models available are ’53, ’61, ’62, ’63, and ’68. Anyone interested should see OJ.

OJ gave us the latest information on the 2009 Corvette Caravan coming up in September. There has been much discussion about getting the caravan to go through Talladega and include a drive around the track. There will now be two caravans going through Alabama. One will go though Talladega and the other one will go on from Birmingham straight to Bowling Green. Details are still being worked out with the Hummer dealer in Birmingham. The Talladega caravan will be leaving from Texas a day earlier than the other caravan. The cost for the trip around the track at Talladega will be about $100 per car. Jimmie Middleton encouraged everyone to participate in a large museum event such as the upcoming caravan.

WEBSITE REPORT:

There will be member contact information available on the website, but this area will be password protested so only other members can see this information.

OTHER:

The museum sent a thank you letter for signing up for 5 years of club membership. They also enclosed 6 free tickets to the museum which were offered to all in the meeting. Museum members, of course, do not need tickets.

Jerry Lowery mentioned that the East Chase show is listed in a national mustang magazine with a circulation of about 12,000 copies. It was suggested that we try to get the show in Corvette Fever in the future.

Larry Martin mentioned our upcoming East Chase car show in September. It will include a money tree, which is a popular draw at many shows. A sign-up list went around the room for volunteers. There will be a DJ this time instead of a band. The Farmers Market event that we shared space with last year will not be there, so we have the whole area to ourselves. Jeff Williams offered a contact to have t-shirts printed if we decide to do so. Jerry Lowery is making the plaques for the show. There will be first, second, and third prizes in nine different categories.

Dennis Hogan sold 50/50 tickets, one per member present. In order to determine wwho would draw the winning ticket, he asked everyone to guess what brand of golf balls he used to play golf. The correct guess, Hogan, came from Paul Letner so he drew the ticket. The winner of half the money was Mike Hall.

Larry adjourned the meeting at 7:57 PM. The next scheduled meeting of CCCC will be at 7 PM, Tuesday August 4th, at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka.

Respectfully Submitted,

The museum now offers specialty car insurance for Corvette owners. It is reported to be very reasonably priced and offers stated value policies.

People with silver cars had an opportunity to volunteer their cars for police duty, placing static cling decals and light bars on their cars and carrying a Kentucky patrol officer with them to help escort the caravan. Only four were chosen. Jon Briggs entered his name but was not chosen.

There is a new room in the museum that will be a Corvette enthusiast room which will be filled with pictures of the Corvette lifestyle. If anyone wants to submit a photo, paperwork will have to be completed giving the museum rights to the photo.

There were 12 bricks in the club brick order. Our bricks will be laid near the new entrance to the store. The show will be on September 12th with a rain date of September 13th. Eastchase will allow us to display a car inside an empty storefront to promote the show. We may have 250 cars this year. FINANCIAL REPORT:

Larry Martin reports, in Carolyn Middleton’s absence, that as of April 30th, we have a total of $xxxx in checking, $xxxx in savings, for a total of $xxxx. As of tonight, we have a total of 58 members.

AMBASSADOR’S REPORT:

OJ Webster, Ambassador, reported on the Corvette caravan coming up on Labor Day weekend at the National Corvette Museum. There will be many activities for all. Attendance is expected to be 20,000 to 24,000 Corvettes. There will be a display of the first and last model year of each generation of the Corvette. The museum is still working on routing the east Texas caravan through Talladega.

People with silver cars had an opportunity to volunteer their cars for police duty, placing static cling decals and light bars on their cars and carrying a Kentucky patrol officer with them to help escort the caravan. Only four will be chosen. Jon Briggs entered his name so he may be helping out with the caravan.

OJ attended the C5/C6 Birthday bash in April. He saw Butch and Janice Geng, honorary members of the club who moved away, while he was there. The new Grand Sport edition was there for display. OJ volunteered to be a tour guide at the assembly plant during his visit and was given the opportunity to sign the A-pillar of the last XLR off the assembly line. About 800 Vettes were present and about 1700 people were there.

The new expansion at the museum is huge and is almost complete.

This year all models of all Vettes come in all colors. There will be no C7 any time soon but Corvettes will continue to be produced.

There were 12 bricks in the club brick order. Our bricks will be laid near the new entrance to the store. We will plan a trip to the museum for a brick-laying ceremony in which we will see where the bricks will be placed.

OTHER:

Jimmy Davis read an editorial about the Corvette from a magazine. He then read an old article about convertibles from a different magazine. He then challenged everyone to guess what magazine the convertible article came from. The person who named the magazine correctly won a $20 Ox Yoke gift card. The correct answer was Playboy, given by Lisa Calhoun.

Larry Martin handed out flyers for the Hawaiian cruise at Flip’s which we are hosting at the end of this month, May 30th. Please come early if you can to help set up or stay afterwards to help break everything down.

Larry Martin spoke about club jackets. The new jackets are now available for $76. They have large Corvette lettering on the back, the club logo on the left chest and your name on the right chest. Anyone interested should see Liz Martin and make the check out to the Corvette club. Several members already have these jackets. There is a single large jacket with smaller Corvette lettering on the back for $60.

Steve Badalamenti spoke about this year’s Lakefest at his house on Lake Martin. There will be food and fun for all, including boat rides. Mark Reese will bring his boat and Mark’s son, who is a wake boarder, will be present to put on a show. The date of July 18th was agreed upon by all present. There will be a rain date of July 19th.

A draft registration form for our show at Easchase was distributed to everyone for the discussion – NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION. The date has been set for September 12th with a rain date of September 13th. The show committee is trying to come up with a way to keep people coming back to the show as our purpose for having the show is to raise money for our charities. So award fairness is what they are concentrating on. Several suggestions were made during the meeting. A money tree was suggested. It was also suggested that a committee be put together made up of members of all of the sponsoring clubs. The Montgomery Family Guidance Center is partnering with us for advertising for the show. There will be no drag racing associated with this year’s show, as the schedule does not permit it.

AUM is having a luau to raise money for scholarships. Tickets are $75 apiece and the event is being held at Children’s Harbor. There will be various types of meats and vegetables – no pig with an apple. There will be dance lessons, silent auctions and many other activities. It is always a lot of fun. Jo Alexander had brochures for anyone who was interested. These brochures may also be picked up at AUM.

Larry adjourned the meeting at 7:56 PM. The next scheduled meeting of CCCC will be at 7 PM, Tuesday June 2nd, at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka.

WEBSITE:

Jerry gave an update on the website. It is still far from completed though new items are being added on a regular basis. Chris Coleman has been working hard on it. If you have not checked out the website, please do so at www.capitolcitycorvettes.com . If you have any pictures or other material or suggestions for the website, please email the Jerry or Chris. The membership application is now on the website and can be completed online and emailed to Carolyn Middleton.

AMBASSADOR’S  REPORT:

OJ Webster, Ambassador, cited a list of Corvettes being raffled off by the National Corvette Museum. The C5/C6 Birthday Bash is coming up April 23-25. There are many activities for all to participate in and some GM VIPs will be present. There will be seminars and tours of places of interest in the area. There will be 500-600 Vettes present. If anyone has any questions, please contact OJ. OJ will be going up there early Thursday morning.

OJ elaborated on the Corvette Action Center web site. There is a lot of good information and statistics on this site. There are 749,943 Corvettes registered since 1967. The NCM has 28,000 members. OJ asks, “Where did the other 720,000 go?” Alabama has 11,991 Vettes registered. By contrast, California has 71,493 Vettes registered. Alabama is on the lower end of the list. OJ also listed some of the top products purchased by Vette owners, including polish/wax and exhaust parts. He ran through more interesting statistics.

The club voted to buy a club hex brick in the new section of the museum. We can get members’ bricks placed around the club brick only if OJ orders all of them together. OJ took final orders for bricks at tonight’s meeting. We will plan a trip to the museum for a brick-laying ceremony in which we will see where the bricks will be placed – they will actually be laid after hours.

RELAY FOR LIFE:

Jon Briggs, liaison, reports that the date of this year’s relay will be May 01 at AUM. Envelopes for Relay for Life were distributed. The event starts at 6PM and we usually leave around 10PM. Also self-addressed, stamped envelopes were passed out along with letters to members so that donations can be mailed to Carolyn Middleton. Food will be provided – just bring a dessert. No alcoholic beverages or generators are allowed at the event. Our site is not assigned yet. Jon encouraged all to come out to the site and walk with us. If you cannot participate, please send donations to Carolyn Middleton. Alternatively, you may contact Jon Briggs and he will make arrangements to pick up your donation. Jon challenged everyone to raise at least $100 per person this year. This year, in addition to luminaria, torches will be available for $100 each. We have already raised $2000 for Relay for Life and for Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund through our car show.

Jimmie Middleton reminded everyone to bring their chairs to the event. He also recognized members who have had cancer or who have family members who have had cancer.

OTHER:

Larry Martin spoke about club jackets. The new jackets are now available for $76. They have the club logo on the left chest and your name on the right chest. Anyone interested should see Liz Martin and make the check out to the Corvette club. Several members already have these jackets.

Next year, Mark Reese will donate another piece of furniture to sell tickets on to raise money for Relay for Life. The armoire he donated last year was a huge success and very much appreciated by the winner.

We will set up another car show this year at Eastchase at the same location we did the last show, hopefully with better weather. Jon Briggs has made some preliminary contact with Bob at Eastchase concerning the show and he is interested. OJ, Dennis, Larry, and Jon will work on the show.

Larry Martin had a box full of old magazines he was giving away to anyone interested.

Tickets were sold for a 50/50 drawing and David Bailey won $70.

Jo Alexander mentioned that Averil Loague lost her brother to cancer the previous week.

Alan M. Davis offered to update the club roster booklet with current info.

Larry adjourned the meeting at 8:20 PM. The next scheduled meeting of CCCC will be at 7 PM, Tuesday May 5th, at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka.

Respectfully Submitted,

Julie Hall, Secretary, CCCC

AMBASSADOR’S  REPORT:

OJ Webster, Ambassador, commended Dennis Hogan for his work as the former Ambassador. He then cited a list of Corvettes being raffled off by the National Corvette Museum. The C5/C6 Birthday Bash is coming up April 23-25. The National Corvette Caravan is coming up on Labor Day weekend. The caravan that comes through Alabama may be stopping at Talladega Superspeedway for a few laps around the track on their way through. This is in the planning stages – OJ will keep us updated.

OJ passed around pictures of the club’s trip to the NCM for the club brick-laying ceremony in 2001 in which our club brick and several club members’ bricks were placed in the NCM walkway. There are new bricks available inside the new part of the building. They are hexagonal and about 8 inches across. The club bricks are the same size as individual bricks due to the shape. The club voted to buy a club brick in the new section. We can get members’ bricks placed around the club brick only if OJ orders all of them together. If anyone is interested, they should give the money and order form to OJ no later than next month’s meeting – it can be mailed to him any time before the meeting or given to him at the meeting. The order form can be found on the NCM website www.corvettemuseum.com . The bricks cost $200 for museum members and $250 for non-members. For $75, you can have a duplicate brick mailed to your house. Museum membership costs $50 per year. Note that if you are not a member and you want a brick, you might as well join the museum before purchasing your brick – then you will have membership AND a brick for $250. We will plan a trip to the museum for a brick-laying ceremony in which we will see where the bricks will be placed – they will be actually laid after hours.

OTHER:

Dennis Hogan spoke about club jackets. The current club jacket is no longer available, so Dennis has been searching for a similar substitute. One has been found in the Mid-America catalog but it had a logo on it. Dennis called and found out they did have some of the jackets with no logo on them. They need to know how many people are interested in getting the jacket for around $70 with a club logo on it. About 10 of the club members who were present expressed interest. Dennis will call Mid-America back and check on availability/ordering info for these jackets.

Mark Schultz’ oldest son, who lives in Opelika, was on WSFA news because he built a 12-foot snowman. He sent pictures of it to Mark on Sunday, who then sent the pictures to WSFA. The story was aired on the evening news. On Monday, the snowman had shrunk to about 4 feet tall.

OJ has a few club hats available for $15. If anyone is interested in owning a club hat, please see OJ.

Steve Badalamenti mentioned that on Mar. 14th beginning at 10 AM there will be a fly-in at the Auburn-Opelika airport. This event will include parachutists, vintage aircraft, military aircraft, etc.

Steve had a book signing in Dadeville that was sold out.

If anyone wants a copy of the picture of club members with the governor should see Carolyn Middleton. She has a few extras that are not signed by the governor.

Larry adjourned the meeting at 8:08 PM. The next scheduled meeting of CCCC will be at 7 PM, Tuesday April 7, at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka.

OTHER:

Through the good offices of Carolyn Middleton, on January 22, around fifteen or so members of the CCCC got to meet “up close and personal” with Gov Bob Riley. Larry presented the Governor with a framed picture of CCCC member’s cars arrayed around the Capitol building. Steve B offers the following anecdote:   “It seems our governor has a sense of humor…. As I stood there shaking his hand, I idly commented that it wasn’t but seven years ago that I retired to Alabama, not knowing a single soul in the entire state…..and here I am today, shaking hands with the governor!”   To which he replied:  “I’m not sure if you can consider that as goin’ for’ard or back’ard!”

Larry adjourned the meeting at  8 PM. The next scheduled meeting of CCCC will be at 7 PM, Tuesday March 3, at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka.
