The Fourth annual River Re gion Open Car and Truck Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Shoppes at EastChase behind Dillards. The rain date for this event is Sunday.
This entertaining and free community event is sponsored by EastChase with the Capitol City Corvette Club, the GM High Performance Club, the Capital City Street Rod Association and the Tri County Mustang Club.
There will be various activities for all ages including a poker run, silent auction, valve cover racing and more. There also will be door prizes and a $1,000 money tree.
Awards will be given for each of the top three Corvettes, Mustangs, GMs, Chevrolets, Rods, Fords, Mopars, trucks, antiques (1945 or older), and open classes. Additional awards will be given including "Best of Show."
There will be many beautiful cars on display.
Among these will be a 2003 Corvette (50th anniversary model) owned by OJ and Gabriele Webster of east Montgomery. It has many outstanding features including an upgraded 420-horsepower engine, custom leather interior and performance brakes.
One of the most interesting features of the car is on the inside of the hood. There is a picture of Dale Earnhardt that was painted by Bo Pittman of Montgomery using an image on a mousepad as inspiration.
The Websters have been members of the Corvette Club since it started in January 1998. It started with a small group of only eight enthusiasts and has grown to almost 70 members. Today, OJ is the National Corvette Ambassador and serves as liaison between the club and the headquarters in Bowling Green, Ky.
OJ and Gabriele still enjoy the club and all it has to offer, including the opportunity to participate in charity events such as this one. They are very proud of their Corvette which has won several "Best of Show" awards.
Registration for participants and their cars is from 9 to 11a.m. that day and the cost is $30. Proceeds from the show will go to various charities including Juvenile Diabetes Organization and Big Brother/Big Sister program.
For more information, contact Jon Briggs at 451-5222 (jbriggs@knology.net) or Larry Martin at 201-8041 (larrylmartin@att.net).
CCCC meetings are held monthly at the Ox Yoke restaurant in Wetumpka, Alabama on the first Tuesday of each month. Arrive at 6 pm to eat dinner with all the members and our meeting begins at 7 pm. Prospective members and guests are always welcome to join in. Our next meeting will be September 6 and we will going final plans for our upcoming annual EastChase show September 10. See ya' there.
